You can spend hours in a store overwhelmed by choices OR you can spend hours in the comfort of your home browsing the endless supply of beautiful picture on Pinterest.
Whither you are designing a space for yourself, or working with a Pro designer, you need to know what you like. What color are you most drawn too? What style most reflects your personal taste? Are you modern or classic? Are you somewhere in the middle.
Walking through a store you might like a modern light fixture, a traditional floral rug, an antique dresser, but when you place them next to one another you realize none of these item go together and you prefer there color palette individually! It’s frustrating and overwhelming to be thrown endless choices and not know what goes together!
Our simple fix for this problem is actually a rather enjoyable one! To get an idea of what you like spend some time pulling pictures from magazines, Pinterest, or off the web from a favorite HGTV or DIY show!
Compile all the pictures that really catch you eye. Work on one room of the house at a time, so you don’t overwhelm yourself. Compile as many pictures as you would like, spend as long as you desire collecting these images. My base line recommendation would to spend more than a week compiling and to compile at least 5-10 pictures.
Now that you have found plenty of well designed images go back and circle your favorite features or make a note as to what you like (the floor color/style, the wall color, the furniture).
Doing this will help you figure out exactly where your likes and style are. You will learn what colors you like, what style furniture your drawn too, and what artistic accents you favor. And, most likely, you will discover common themes.
Compare the pictures, you may have picked the same style of couch in each one, or they may all share the same color palette. You may prefer modern clean lines opposed to the feeling of a rustic cabin.
Taking time for this step will help you discover what you really like, if your working with a pro it will give them the information they need to design your space.
Have fun! We hope you will soon be enjoying EVERY CORNER of your home!
